Respond was delighted to welcome RTE Nationwide’s filming team including Mary Kennedy, Brian Walsh and Suzanne Walsh, from Hilite TV, to two Respond Centres in Waterford on 11th April.
RTE broadcast this Nationwide Respond ‘Special’ on RTE ONE Friday 20th May at 7:00pm. The thirty minute special incorporated filming from a number of Respond occasions, locations and events over the years.

Nationwide visit Waterford city where they are celebrating the opening of a brand new Respond housing development in St. Johns College, a former seminary in the city. They find out all about Respond and the great work they have been doing across the country for more than 30 years and we meet the man who was instrumental in the setting up of the Charity and who still plays a vital role in its operation.

First thing Monday morning the crew visited Respond Ard An Ghleanna in Tramore Waterford and spoke with Sandra Morrissey Childcare Leader. A number of our pre-school children were only too happy to smile for the camera.

The filming then moved onto John’s College where Respond Founding Director Fr. Pat Cogan spoke about the history of Respond and the challenges facing the housing sector going forward. Ned Brennan Respond CEO then detailed facts and figures and expanded on what the future holds for Respond

While in Johns College Mary also spoke to new College House residents Dermot Power and Kathleen Fitzgerald about their new homes and their experience of this fledgling community.

Sarah Barron speaks about Respond Education Programmes
Respond Education Co-ordinator Sarah Barron rounded off the day, by asking the current students of the Respond Community Certificate Programme to participate in the filming. Sarah then spoke to Mary Kennedy about the Educational Programmes being run by Respond around the country.
