Shortlisted for Energy Efficiency Awards 2013

Respond Housing Association were recently shortlisted for an award in the ISOVER Energy Efficiency Awards 2013 for the Infill House in Beachmount, Tramore, Co. Waterford. The 2013 ISOVER Energy Efficiency Awards showcase the most energy efficient  building projects across Ireland – from building professionals including architects, engineers, builders and developers.

Respond submitted a pilot project, with the target achievement of A2 Building Energy Rating.

The objective was to increase Respond’s knowledge and experience of the design and construction of energy efficient social housing with the intention of using successful methods and technology in future projects.

The fabric of the house submitted, was built with increased levels of insulation in the floor, walls and ceiling and particular attention was paid to detailing to reduce thermal bridges and improve the airtightness of the building. The technology used in this project includes a Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery system, solar hot water and a geothermal heat pump to provide the space heating.

Respond were assisted in the project by Malone O’Regan Consulting Engineers and Costello Surveyors. The house was built by S&K Carey Building Contractors and completed in October 2012.

Congratulations to the overall winner, Clauson House Kiltilly, Co. Wexford for achieving a space heat demand of just 13.4 kWh/m2.a & airtightness result of 0.58 m3/h.m2, a project that demonstrated that a low energy house could be built in the traditional style within tight planning restraints on form and height of residential constructions.

The Energy Efficiency Awards scheme honours those who have excelled in energy efficient in the building sector and Respond were delighted to be one of those shortlisted for this prestigious award.
