Respond Housing Association celebrate 30th anniversary at a recent event in Oranmore, Co Galway

The Mayor of Galway County, Cllr Thomas Welby, Galway Rose Anna de Paor and other special guests attended an event held in Árd na Mar, Oranmore, Co Galway as part of the Respond Housing Association’s 30th Anniversary celebrations. Ireland’s leading housing charity work with a variety of marginalised people in need of social housing and this particular event celebrates their work with one of these groups, older people.

The main themes of the event are to highlight Respond Housing Association’s advocacy and empowerment of older people, and to celebrate older people’s contribution to society and the partnership between Respond Housing Association and the community. The event will also celebrate active ageing and solidarity among generations. Residents of Respond Housing Association will showcase work undertaken as part of an art workshop, highlighting inter-generational involvement with the local school.

A piece of art produced by Respond Housing Association residents during an Art Programme was on display as was a series of photographs depicting Oranmore and the convent through the ages. Entertainment was provided by the Maree Musical Society and traditional musicians from the Murray family.

I wish them every continued success, and congratulate them on their 30th anniversary this year. Their commitment to providing housing for those in need is inspiring, and is making a realy difference in Galway and all across the country.”
