The launch took place last Thursday, June 18th 2009 of Kildare’s newest housing development, in Ardrew Meadows, Athy. The estate which was designed and built by Respond Housing Association was recently featured on the popular RTÉ interior design programme “Showhouse” presented by Neville Knot. With prices for houses ranging from €130,000 to €160,000, the development offers excellent value for money and is attracting a large amount of interest from the local public.

Ned Brennan, Respond Chief Operations Officer says that the organisation is very pleased with the reaction of the people of Athy to the development so far:
“The launch of Ardrew Meadows took place last Thursday and we were delighted with the feedback we received from the public. Built to the highest standards, this new development offers excellent quality homes at significantly lower prices than the private market with a 4-bed detached home costing just €160,000. In addition, none of the ownership restrictions previously imposed on purchasers of Affordable Homes exists as there is no clawback should the house be sold at a future date. Ardew Meadows provides first-time buyers with the very real opportunity to buy a home at a reasonable price.”

Those who attended were attracted by not only the price and quality of the properties, but also the proximity to Athy Town Centre and the community facilities that will be available on the estate. Ardrew Meadows offers a family friendly place to live where every amenity is within walking distance including crèche, restaurants, shops and leisure activities.
According to Natasha Corcoran, an Athy local who attended the launch, the quality and design of the homes surpassed her expectations.
“I first visited Ardew Meadows last Saturday and I was taken aback by the high standard of design and finish of the estate. Viewing the house featured on the RTÉ programme “Showhouse” showed me what can be achieved on a reduced budget. I know a lot of people were attracted by the quality of the houses but I really hope that I can become a part of the Ardrew experience.”

Prospective applicants do not need to be currently on the affordable housing register as Respond will consider new applicants. Anyone who is a first-time buyer and earns between €25,000 and €50,000 may qualify. A deposit arrangement is available courtesy of Respond and in certain circumstances, mortgage finance is also available.

With more than 25 years experience in the housing sector, Respond believes in building communities, not just houses. Designed and built to the highest standards laid down by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, all homes are homebound guaranteed with generous garden space, quality open space and a community building.

Respond Housing Association designed and built Ardrew Meadows with the support of Athy Town Council and Kildare County Council. The development was funded by Kildare County Council through the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
