Congratulations to all the students who have just completed a nine month major FETAC level 5 Certificate in Healthcare Support.

This programme will enable them to now work in the expanding healthcare sector.  The students undertook a variety of modules, including Person-centred focus on disability, Care of the older person, Care skills, Safety and health in the workplace and Social analysis.  All students completed a work experience placement, as part of the course, which gave them the opportunity to gain invaluable experience plus to use their new found skills in a practical healthcare setting.

The course was structured around the students’ ability that encourages the student to engage with the tutors, fellow students and the educational material.  There was an emphasis on practical group work within the class, interactive demonstrations and the use of multimedia and class hand-outs to enhance the learning experience.

A number of the students have now been offered employment opportunities and some have taken up their new roles as healthcare support workers.  The students praised Respond College for giving them the opportunity to return to education and to obtain a qualification, something that they thought that they would never achieve. They have gained knowledge, new skills and friendships from doing the course.

The feedback from the course was very positive with comments such as  ‘grown up as a person’, ‘learned so much about myself’ and a ‘very different person is walking out of the class today’.

We wish them all well in their future careers.
