Patricia Power Respond  Child/Family Support for Parenting Programmes, Le Cheile Oakland Drive, Clonmel

The communities of Fethard and Killenaule, Tipperary organised a Community Awareness Forum on 4th May 2016 to highlight issues of Substance Misuse and Mental Health plus the showcase the range of supports for children, young people and families in the area.

This joint community awareness forum was entitled ‘No More Wasted Lives’ and took place at Moyglass Community complex, located between Fethard and Killenaule.

The importance now given to mental health and well being in Irish Society was underlined by over 700 people turning out to this public forum, designed to get people talking and also to get people listening.

speakersRespond staff attended to supply information about the services provided by Respond in the locality. On-hand to discuss the various services were Mary Lonergan, Patricia Power and Bernadette Shaw Shanahan.

The event was chaired by Fran Curry from Tipp FM and the guest speakers included Niall Breslin (Bressie), Alice Leahy from the Trust Foundation, Alan Quinlan who spoke about Mental Health and Sport, John Leahy speaking about Alcohol Misuse and Roger Mehta who explored dealing with Substance and Alcohol Misuse through Music.

This event was extremely well supported by all the groups from Tipperary and its surrounds and the large attendance left with a greater knowledge of what help is needed and where it is available.
