On a glorious sunny June Bank Holiday Monday morning, nine ladies from Tallaght set off to Dublin City centre to participate in the Flora Womans Marathon 2013 in a bid to fund raise for Respond’s Ard Mòr Montessori ‘s summer camp.
Ard Mòr Montessori Child Care Leader Rachel Greene, her mother Celine Gorman and niece Chloe Kett (only 14 yrs old) 4 parents of the children Esther Dillon and best friend Diane, Liz Pritchard, Sinead Kavanagh, Vicky Sheridan and her sister Emma boarded the Luas at Citywest along with hundreds of other ladies all heading to town.
Rachel Greene gives an account of their mini marathon experience:
First stop, Mc Donalds on the Green………. for fuel of course! Then it was up to Merrion Square to the starting point. Over 40,000 ladies all supporting t-shirts of their different charities and their causes. Some strange looking ladies wearing pink wigs and tutu skirts also supporting their charities, brought an air of fun to the day.
The ladies of Ard Mòr Montessori were walking in a bid to fund raise for this years summer camp which will start on Monday 1st July and run for 8 weeks. We hope to cater for up to 40 children over the 2 months providing them with a summer of fun, activities and outings. All money raised on the day will go towards a summer to remember for the children of Ard Mòr.
A very enjoyable day was had by all, most memorable part been the soaking we got from the men of the Dublin Fire Brigade, well needed in that heat.
Final port of call was a large cold mineral in The Oval Bar on Abbey St then back to Tallaght on the Luas supporting our medals, exhausted but very proud of ourselves.
Thank you to all who walked this year for Respond’s Ard Mòr Montessori
